Wow! it's been a long time since I've posted. I am trying to get my laptop to view correctly on an HDTV so I can use the BlueRay player. The laptop has an HDMI port that I use to hook up to the TV. The picture looks good but does not go full screen. There is an option to "force" a resolution through the CCC. Is this safe to do or can it be done? I was hoping to use the laptop as a temporary player until I can get a standalone.

Laptop specs: HP Pavillion with an ATI Mobility HD 4650. Desktop resolution is at 1600x900 which is max.

TV: Sony Bravia 120 hz. Resolution is at 1080p.

Thanks for your time.

I have tried to boot in safe mode but it will not let me, I have also tried to boot from the XP disc also repair the fault from the same XP disc but with no luck at all.
I have windows vista premium on an acer 5536 laptop. I recently got a upgrade cd to windows 7 premium and 2 other cd's from acer with system drivers and a set up cd for the windows 7 cd. I have acers erecovery with pqservice on the pc. Should i use the cd's to upgrade with the acer errecovery or is there a way to use the cd's to do a clean install? Then if I ever had to restore the pc I could just use the cd's. Verry confused. I do not have an option to run erecovery unless I start it with the f10 key and alt held down.
Any help greatly appreciated, John...

i have lost my websites when geocities-free webspace was gone by end of oct.(26)09. of course all my data is safe.

searching three domains i used i can only extract data from one of them. all others are linked to empty geocities site.
does this mean all data/links to them are lost forever?
can you explain how archive.org is working? for future situations. thanks

My wifes PC (Pentium 4, 3.2 Intel 915mb) started running like a "three legged water buffalo" so I opened it up to see what I could see. I found that the video card fan had died (I understand it's common with the Nvidia 8600 card) and living in Colombia no replacement parts are available. I have several generic fans for chipsets etc. so found one off an dead Soyo motherboard that was the same diameter as the original. The original fan is a fairly flat afair that's installed internally in a "pod" attached to the video card. I retrofitted the Soyo fan on the "outside" of the module so it is pulling air into the module and exhausting to the ouside and the case fan then can pick up the discharged heat fron the card.
It seems to work better than the original, running cooler. The first pick shows the retro with the old fan alongside.

How to screw up your RAID 1 volume in Vista in 2 easy steps

Begin: Troubleshoot why PC won't come out of hybrid sleep/sleep mode.

Read somewhere to 'remove battery from mobo', which means to set BIOS to failsafe defaults.

Don't do this if you have a RAID and are forgetful. If you do the following steps at least remember to set your SATA drives back up as RAID otherwise it defaults back to IDE instead of the required RAID settings and borks it all up.

MSI X58-Pro
Core i7 920
6GB DDR3
Radeon 3870
RAID 1 with (2) x 320GB Seagate Barracuda hard drives (enabled RAID in BIOS before imaging disks)
(1)TB WD green SATA drive from failed My(Crappy) Book World Edition

1. reset BIOS to fail"safe" defaults to troubleshoot separate issue (PC not coming out of hybrid sleep mode)
2. forget that RAID needs to be set in BIOS for RAID to work properly and reboot

And the rest of the story...
3. Windows loaded but acted very slow.
4. Noticed Intel Matrix Storage utility wasn't loading. Remembered that RAID *needs* to be set in the BIOS for it to work properly.
5. <reboot>
6. re-enabled RAID in BIOS
7. <reboot>
8. Can't load Windows due to some missing or corrupt file. Advised to insert Vista CD and use the auto-fix utility
9. <reboot>
10. boot from Vista disk
11. Vista couldn't find my Windows installation
12. <reboot>
13. disabled 1TB drive from boot priority
14. powered off
15. pulled power from 1TB drive (only RAID drives and DVD remain)
16. boot from Vista disk
17. finally located Windows volume
18. clicked the auto-repair-thingie
19. <reboot>
20. Missing or corrupt PCIIDEX.SYS
21. *(#@@#$#$%!*&^!*(#*@#*(&! Microsoft and the goat they rode in on...
22. <reboot>
23. boot from Vista disk
24. auto-repair again
25. <reboot>
26. Missing or corrupt PCIIDEX.SYS
27. *i'm going to h311 for sure*
28. boot from Vista disk
29. auto-repair again
30. "Searching for problems...." for very long time. Time passes.
31. "Attempting repairs..." for very long time. More time passes.

It's sleepy-time now but will repost the grand finale for posterity.

at the end of compression is says some third-party software was installed cannot load(or similar) kernel. q327101.
check boot.ini. nothing found what was mentioned.
at start before login i see the asus-screen a7v8x(the same screen i had problems to pass- i know now how to solve it but it is still existing), then i see world warcraft-game-image.
i already deinstalled asus-display-drivers.

background is my second pc(old one must be replaced by an identical one) from an unknown person. due to some reasons i had to use his 80gb hdd and winxp. thanks

Opinions on laptop temps anyone?

I have a Gateway MT3423 laptop that my grandpa had purchased for me (used) a few months ago. About a week ago the graphics chipset completely burned out on it, so I had to replace the motherboard for the laptop. I purchased/replaced it today, and the laptop is running great; no problems there.

What I'd like to know is whether or not 83"C is a normal temp for the gpu in your average laptop? This is where it tends to idle on this laptop, and this is also where it idled on the previous mobo. The gpu has pretty lousy cooling (it's got a pad that holds it against an aluminum pan..that is ultimately the underbelly of the cpu fan), and if that isn't typical temperature for a laptop gpu, is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks

And also, the laptop is clean. Having replaced the motherboard entirely I figured it'd be a good time to clean out dust in the process. I was thinking about replacing the pad the gpu sits against with a bit of thermal compound but idk if that'd really make a difference.
